"RITA SACRA" St Rita Scented Blessed Oil (SRSBO02)
This “RITA SACRA” Scented Oil has been created by our priests and lovingly prepared at St. Rita’s Centre for the devotion of the faithful. The amount charged reflects only the cost of materials and preparation.
The blessing itself is given freely by our priests for the spiritual benefit of those who wish to use this scented oil with faith in honour of St. Rita. So, the item you would receive has already been blessed by a priest and therefore is intended only to be used with devotion and faith, as explained in the accompanying letter and prayer card provided with each bottle of Rita Sacra. It may also be given as a gift for prayerful use, and with faith, but it should never be sold or treated as something magical.
Meaning and Use of Blessed Oils in Catholic Tradition
The Church reserves the three Holy Oils—Sacred Chrism, the Oil of Catechumens, and the Oil of the Sick—exclusively for use in the Sacraments. Yet the Church also recognizes the value of blessed oil used by the faithful as a sacramental: a humble, grace disposing aid for prayer, devotion, and personal supplication.
The most familiar way to use blessed anointing oil is to trace the Sign of the Cross on the forehead, the chest, and the hands or wrists while praying. It may also be applied to other parts of the body, especially when asking God’s healing for a particular need.
Sacraments confer grace because Christ Himself acts through them; sacramentals, by contrast, do not cause grace directly but open the heart to receive God’s help through the Church’s prayer and the devotion of the faithful.
